The American Dairy Products Institute® (ADPIAmerican Dairy Products Institute®) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2024 ADPIAmerican Dairy Products Institute Scholarship Program Awards.
Since 2009, ADPIAmerican Dairy Products Institute has been awarding the Jim Page Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was established in memory of James J. Page, who enjoyed a distinguished marketing career in the dairy industry and served as the CEO of ADPIAmerican Dairy Products Institute from 2002 through 2008.
Two deserving students received this year’s Jim Page Memorial Scholarships:
Aidan Ainslie from Clayville, New York is a junior at Cornell University pursuing a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Dairy Economics. Adian has participated in trips with the Cornell Dairy Club, studying food production in the U.S. and abroad. He has spent time in Greece working at the University of Thessaly on nutrition research related to milk yield and qualityFocus on doing things well and producing a product acceptable to consumers in sheep. As an intern at Ever.Ag, Adian has expanded his knowledge regarding markets, risk and how to think on a more macro scale in the dairy industry. This experience has solidified Aidan’s desire to pursue a career in dairy commodity trading and risk management.
Danielle Mauhar from West Allis, Wisconsin is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville. Upon graduation, Danielle would like to enter the Agriculture or Food Industry. For the past two summers, she has been exposed to the innovation, science, conservation, and people within the agriculture industry and sees herself in a role applying engineering principles and technologies in designing and developing machines and equipment that help farmers improve their yields, reduce costs, enhance their processes, and minimize the negative impact on the environment.
Established in 2022, the Phillip Tong Educational Scholarship honors Dr. Tong’s contributions to the training and development of individuals in the dairy industry. Dr. Tong served as the Director of Dairy Science, Education and Research for ADPI from 2016 to 2021 and is Professor Emeritus of Cal-Poly State University. This year three deserving students received the 2023 Phillip Tong Education Scholarship.
KPotassiumylie Konyn from San Marcos, California, will be a senior this fall at the University of Madison-Wisconsin studying Dairy Science with minors in Ag Business and Science Communications. She is currently studying abroad at Wageningen University in the Netherlands, participating in master’s level nutrition courses and has interned with ABS Global and Cargill and plans to intern this summer with Standards Dairy Consultants. These opportunities are shaping her plans of pursuing her doctorate degree in dairy cattle nutrition and returning to the industry as a nutrition and management consultant.
Megan Rupp from Middleton, Idaho, is a sophomore at Brigham Young University-Idaho who is studying Food Science with an emphasis in nutrition. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle has always been a priority for Megan and she believes that food is to be used in variety and moderation, not through intense diets or trendy fads and loves learning the science behind our everyday habits such as the food we eat. Megan plans to earn her Master’s degree and make an impact in the food science community.
Megan Ratka from Cold Spring, Minnesota, is currently a junior at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities majoring in Animal Science with an emphasis in Dairy Production. Through her experiences gained as a lab technician intern in a dairy processing lab assisting with product testing, she has learned the importance of producing safe and nutritious dairy products efficiently. Megan looks forward to earning her Master’s degree in reproduction physiology focusing on dairy cattle and would someday like to work in the field of dairy reproduction research to improve animal health and production stainability.
