See rejection. Determined by measuring concentrations of a solute in the feed and permeate
streams.
R = (Cf – Cp)/Cf
Cf = concentration of a component in the feed stream
Cp = concentration of a component in the permeate
where R ~ 0, component freely permeates
R ~ 1, component is retained
