International Whey Conference Draws Attendees From 23 Countries And 160 Organizations From Around The World

Elmhurst, Ill., September 14, 2022 – World-leading dairy-derived whey processors, researchers, and product developers joined leading nutrition, food, and beverage subject matter experts at the 2022 International Whey Conference (IWC) in Chicago, IL from September 11 – 14. The biennial conference is co-organized by the American Dairy Products Institute (ADPI) and the European Whey Processors Association (EWPA).

This year’s International Whey Conference buzzed with energy and enthusiasm, as noted by ADPI President and CEO Blake Anderson. Conference attendees from 23 countries representing over 160 organizations enjoyed a wide variety of informational, educational and networking activities along with a fantastic IWC Marketplace, featuring over 20 exhibitors showcasing the latest equipment and industry related services.

“We are very proud and excited about the caliber of participants at this year’s International Whey Conference, along with the quality of whey related knowledge and information shared,” said Anderson. “We learned about significant new opportunities related to ongoing whey research, product development and application. Most of the information and opportunities discussed directly ties to consumers growing interest in health, well-being and nutrition.”

“IWC 2022 showcased whey as a value-added ingredient with unsurpassed health and nutrition benefits for both human and animal consumption. Science backed research already established whey as one of the most multi-functional and nutritionally complete proteins, and and it is now widely available in today’s food and beverage products,” Anderson explained.

Over sixty (60) conference speakers from around the world presented ongoing research and market development opportunities related to whey and whey-based products. Two parallel session tracks, nutrition and innovation, examined the key drivers of the current whey industry.  The nutrition track featured sessions on the infant & childhood nutrition; mainstreaming of sports nutrition, body composition, and animal nutrition sectors. The innovation track included sessions on emerging ingredients, markets, and applications, along with related technologies.

Conference sessions were complemented by the Blazing The Whey Marketplace, a central gathering place for attendees. The Marketplace featured an exhibit hall with supplier booths as well as scientific posters prepared by academic and dairy science researchers. These exhibits highlighted innovative whey-based ingredients, processing equipment and service offerings, etc. The Marketplace further enabled the industry’s commercial professionals, researchers, and academics from all over the world to network and discuss how best to connect science and technology to real-world commercial opportunities.

IWC 2022 outlined the future of whey industry as industry professionals are Blazing The Whey!

The 2024 International Whey Conference is scheduled for September 15 – 18, 2024 in Dublin, Ireland, and will return to the US in 2026.

The goal of the conference is to showcase the latest industry trends, new applications and most current research related to a wide range of dairy derived whey products. ADPI and EWPA each host the biennial conference on a rotational basis.
