The American Dairy Products Institute (ADPIAmerican Dairy Products Institute) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2023 ADPIAmerican Dairy Products Institute Scholarship Award Program.
Since 2009, ADPIAmerican Dairy Products Institute has been awarding the Jim Page Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was established in memory of James J. Page, who enjoyed a distinguished marketing career in the dairy industry and served as the CEO of ADPIAmerican Dairy Products Institute from 2002 through 2008.
Three deserving students received this year’s Jim Page Memorial Scholarship, all enrolled in degree programs with a goal of working in the food industry.
Olivia Adams from Cassville, Wisconsin is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in animal science from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville. Upon receiving her bachelor’s degree, Olivia plans to earn a master’s degree in ruminant nutrition with a goal of becoming an animal nutritionist.
Hayden Metzger from Salem, Oregon is a full-time student at Oregon State University pursuing a degree in food science and technology with minors in agriculture and food business management and chemistry. Having the opportunity to intern with Darigold as a lab technician, along with his current work in the Joy Waite-Cusic Food Microbiology Lab at OSU, Hayden looks forward to a career as a food scientist.
Rainna Simone of Marshfield, Wisconsin is a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, majoring in dairy science with a minor in Spanish. Rainna is looking forward to studying aboard to expand her knowledge of dairy heifer management for a future career as a dairy calf specialist.
Established in 2022, the Phillip Tong Educational Scholarship honors Dr. Tong’s contributions to the training and development of individuals in the dairy industry. Dr. Tong served as the Director of Dairy Science, Education and Research for ADPIAmerican Dairy Products Institute from 2016 to 2021 and is Professor Emeritus of Cal-Poly State University. There are two deserving students receiving the 2023 Phillip Tong Education Scholarship, sisters from Shawnee, Kansas.
Ella Martin is a junior at Kansas State University majoring in bakery science and management and food science. Ella interned in the research and development department at Flowers Food and plans to intern this summer at the ingredient company, Corbion. These opportunities are informing her plans of pursuing a role in the bakery science field of research and development and perhaps one day seeing a product she helped develop on grocery store shelves.
Erin Martin is double majoring in food science and baking at Kansas State University, and currently holds the position of production manager for the Bakery Science Club at K-State. She looks forward to further developing her knowledge of formulation and building a career in the production or research and development area, creating high-quality nutritional products consumers want.
